"Teen blogger counselled for her 'elitist' remarks" ST 24 Oct 2006 H5

Teenage blogger Wee Shu Min has apologised for her comments, though not directly to Mr Derek Wee for her elitist comments.

Though she had already apologised I am quite disturbed by what her father, MP Wee Siew Kim had said about the incident. He said "...she wrote in a private blog and I felt that her privacy has been violated. After all, they were the rantings of an 18-year old among friends." He went on and said " nonetheless, I have counselled her to learn from it. Some people cannot take the brutal truth and that sort of language, so she ought to learn from it.... our comments must be tempered with sensitivity."

Excuse me? Are we missing something here Mr MP? The entire issue here is not just about sensitivity. It is about having empathy too. Being sensitive just means that you hold on to your views while making them known in a way that is less hurtful. Showing empathy means you try as much as possible to understand the other person's point of view and relfect if there's anything we can do to help or change the situation. There is no point being sensitive without being able to empathize. Mr MP has certainly taught her well. I really wonder why he still feels that her privacy has been violated. Obviously when she wrote that down on her blog, she wanted to so how 'clever' she is. Frankly, I am most glad that her privacy has been violated in this sense. How else would we know how evil and sinister the thoughts of an 18 year old can be?

This brings me to another thing that has been bugging me. Flaws in the education system. Where else do you think she gets her elitist ideas from? GEP, MEP...you name them. What is the product of our education? I'm exhausted from all these thoughts. Actually had more to write but nvm.

I've included a link here for an interesting intellectual read about this incident. Just click on the title of this post. Oh...and RJ ROCKS.

Happy Enough Day aka Gou Le Tian!

From Oct 21 2006 onwards, that day shall be marked as Enough Day annually. On that day, I decided that I had enough of several things. Among others, my lack of motivation for my gym routine, my constant procrastination to do things from peeing to homework etc.

What to do on Enough Day?

(1) Reflect Alright stop rolling your eyes! I know many of you reading this are probably already sick of this but let me go on. Reflect on what are the things you are currently unhappy with and want to change. It could be anything under the sun.

(2) Do it! After reflection, think of how to break out of the habit and DO IT (at least once).

I'm sure there are many other things one can think of...how about adding yours to my list?

Ni gou le ma????? Happy Enough Day!

I have a self-esteem problem...

That's why

I *try* to outdo everyone.
I am stubborn.
I must win all the time.
I am a difficult person to get along with.
I keep my hair short.
That's why I gym.
I look down on some people
I am overtly critical
I am a power hungry monster
I am not objective
I am overtly sensitive

This rang a note in me:

In denial. No, my life's a trial
I'm not denying that every little bit hurts
It's a problem that I'm not solving
Don't mind admitting
I feel like quitting this job
For a while getting away
Before it gets any worse today...

*chokes*

Singapore woke up today to find most of her building obscured in a thick choking haze with PSI in the unhealthy range of 130, a far cry from the 200+ in 1997, but still, choking.

This haze event has become an annual event. Take a trip down to the esplanade and you can will see our poor Merlion puking and choking.

Brawnypaws wonders who are these people who annually sets fire to the forest. Are these poor people with little education and hence do not understand the hazard they are causing? Or do they understand but are forced by poverty to set fire to clear land for farmimg. Or are they being exploited by the rich to set fire and clear land for illegal logging etc?

Whatever it is, Brawnypaws is staying indoors today with the air-purifying machine that he bought yesterday night. Still wondering if it really works.

The air in Cambridge must be pristine.

Judging the Exec

Brawnypaws got himself an O2 Exec Atom to replace his long time T610. Having gotten used to T610, the learning curve for his new toy seems steep!

Pros: Brawnypaws loves execs. Period. O2 Exec is a powerful PDA phone packed with many programs and features, including MS Outlook, Excel mobile (so he can draw graphs on the train), Powerpoint mobile ( Ms Chui, he can do his slides in your class now! haha!), O2 SMS plus, Media player etc. It is also WiFi enabled. There are other features that Brawnypaws has yet to find out. All in all, this little gadget is one small thing packed with lots of goodies; just like its owner. :)

Cons: For hell's sake, it's WINDOWS! Argh, restarted twice on its own in less than a week and Brawnypaws have programs popping up for no apparent reason. He cant just call an unsaved number from his sms-es. He has to save it first before calling the contact. Still getting used to the stylus. Paws and stylus just don't mix. Haven't tried the infra red keyboard yet though. Phone reception is only satisfactory and adjusting the device settings is quite daunting.

Overall Verdict: (7/10 paws) Brawnypaws likes the phone because it has help to record his schedule and makes sure he does not forget anymore appointments ever again. On the flip side, the gadget has got quite a few features that he knows will be useful but takes time to discover. All in all, Brawnypaws thinks its a good phone but perhaps the sms and phone reception could be better improved.
