SAV opened yesterday! In the morning, there was a Learning Fest for parents and students to come and hopefully gain some insights of what other departments have to offer. Sad to say, this event wasn't well publicised. The turnout was disproportionate to the effort put in by various people and I just hope the students weren't too disappointed.
I was pleasantly surprised with my volunteers who gave the visitors are really good impression. The explanation they gave while doing the "Heart Dissection" demo was really commendable. Of course, as their teacher, I felt very proud of them indeed.
Here, Colin is seen holding the heart. They had quite a bit of fun playing and explaning with it. A few lower sec boys commented that it was gross and disgusting. Hmm.. I guess it wouldn't be gross and disgusting if they had seen it with a scientific mind. Jeremy and Alex are the other of my helpers.
Here Colin, explains to my CT the parts of the heart and its features.
Colin does it again in front of curious kids and parents.
Next door, Chemistry department has quite a bit of stuff on display too. Redox and crystal growing.
While SAV dolls up for the offical opening, her boys get a final brief on what to do. The boys are so eager to be in No.1 uniform.
Elsewhere in the courtyard, the band ( my fav CCA!) prepares for the night. The prewar house is called the "Woodsville House" and has been preserved while the entire secondary school was build around it. An old couple who attended the ceremony later in the evening spoke me me and told me they actually stayed around the Woodsville House decades ago. It was really interesting to hear all these stories.
I think one of the things I will miss is the school band. One of my most problematic student is actually in the band and I felt hopeful for him because in the band, he was so responsible. I really hope he will be able to find more interest in his studies.
The evening ends in buffet dinner as the guests walk over from the JC side over to the secondary school.
